Edwards and Padgett to Kings, Ouladelhadjamed joins Albertus
Three members of the 2018-19 EHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights have taken the next step in their hockey careers by committing to play at NCAA Division III schools. Captain Rhett Padgett, along with fellow defenseman Joshua Edwards will stay local by selecting King’s College, while forward Zach Ouladelhadjamed joins two Knights on his way to Albertus Magnus next season.
Padgett, 20, stays nearby with his commitment to King’s College. The school will enter just their third year with an NCAA hockey program, competing in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). By playing home games at Revolution Ice Centre, this will mean Padgett will step on the ice in Pittston, PA for a sixth consecutive season.
The captain played in 92 regular season games with the Knights in the Eastern Hockey League, and was a member of the organization dating back to his youth days in the 2014-15 season. In the 2018-19 campaign, Padgett registered two goals and 11 points. Including playoffs, Padgett skated in 50 games with the EHL club this past season, which ranks first among defenseman on the team.
Joining the captain at the collegiate level will be fellow blue liner, Joshua Edwards. The two have played the last half decade together as members of the Knights.
“He’s one of the best teammates and friends I’ve ever had,” said Edwards when talking about Padgett. “The opportunity to continue playing with him is an unexpected bonus. I mainly picked King’s because it met both my academic and athletic goals at the collegiate level. I’d like to major in engineering and King’s has a strong program. I need to thank both my parents and the Knights’ coaching staff, particularly Coach Fusco, for all the guidance he has given me. His commitment to making me a both a better hockey player and person has been a big part of my success.”
Edwards finished second in goals for a defenseman on the Knights with five this past season and a total of 12 points in 42 regular season games.
While Edwards and Padgett remain teammates, Zach Ouladelhadjamed completes a trifecta of Knights that will play for Albertus Magnus in their inaugural season of NCAA division III hockey. He joins goaltender Thomas Walker and forward Emerson Emery, who will also skate for the Falcons in the fall. Like Edwards, Ouladelhadjamed also gives Head Coach Josh Fusco credit for his decision.
“After talking it over with Coach Fusco, I came to the realization that I would have the opportunity to help build Albertus Magnus and its’ hockey culture,” said Ouladelhadjamed.
Zach played his ’98 season with the Knights where he scored 13 goals. Born out of Harvey’s Lake, PA, the talented winger found a home for himself in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton community, where he’s played hockey for the last decade. Ouladelhadjamed scored the final goal of the EHL Knights’ season in game three of the 2019 Frozen Finals.
